Brett ready to support Miami men

Our MAN v FAT Soccer program has now been going for several months in Florida and the newest club in the state currently is our South Miami club, held in Kendall.

Supporting the men there to improve their health and wellbeing is recently appointed club coach Brett Rivera. Brett, a keen soccer player himself having turned out at NPSL level, is delighted to have joined the program and told us a bit more about his background.

1) Tell us a bit about you!

“I’ve lived in Miami since I was 9 years old and have been involved in sport for as long as I can remember, especially soccer, which has always been a big part of who I am.

“I’m still an active player, and over the years I’ve coached and trained in a variety of settings, always driven by a passion for helping others find confidence and consistency through movement. I believe that fitness and soccer especially can be a powerful way to build not just physical strength, but mental resilience and community.”

2) What was it that made you want to get involved in MAN v FAT Soccer and support the men of South Miami?

“MAN v FAT brings together everything I value – soccer, fitness, accountability, and community. I’ve seen firsthand how powerful it is when men have a space where they can show up, be supported, and make real changes without judgment. South Miami felt like the perfect place to help build something new , a space where guys can get healthier, stronger, and more connected through soccer.”

3) How would you describe your coaching and wellbeing support style?

“I’m a mix of structure and support. I bring the energy, but I also meet people where they are. My background in fitness and group training means I know how to push people just enough, but always with empathy. I believe in celebrating small wins, creating consistency, and making the process enjoyable. Whether it’s coaching on the field or checking in midweek, I’m here to help each guy stay on track mentally and physically.”

“I want to build a brotherhood. A group where everyone feels seen, supported, and part of something bigger than themselves. It’s about more than football, it’s about building momentum, confidence, and friendships that last beyond the sessions. I want South Miami to be known as a place where men show up for themselves and for each other.”

5) Why should men in the area consider joining?

“You don’t need to be fit to join, you just need to be ready to take that first step. You’ll get coaching, accountability, and a team that’s rooting for you every week. It’s fun, competitive, and most importantly, it creates real change. If you’ve been waiting for a sign to start, this is it.”
